HyperEdit App Reviews

22 add

Bought it but not gonna use it… Oh well.

This app would have been used if it incorporated some form of FTP client and file navigation tool. Without these features, I waste time flipping back and forth to another program and a finder window. Everything else in this app is excellent and worked just as I would expect and the price couldnt be better but the lack of these two workflow features is what ultimately made me decide not to use it. I wish someone would come up with a solution to PHP relative path includes that doesnt involve an installation of any other program or app.

Cannot save - encoding error

No help available anywhere. Sorry, this looks like an awesome editor but shame on me for not looking at the dates of the other reviews. I get a Text Encoding Error "Cannot write data using your currently specified encoding. Please try changing the encoding in the options window.” I try to change “western Mac OS Roman” but then run into all kinds of errors.” I would take this review down in a second or chnage to 5 stars if this was fixed.

Looks pretty cool, will need to spend time with it

I cant give a detailed review without actually spending a reasonable amount of time in the app. But feature set and first impressions are positive. Feature suggestions: tag completion, editing support for Ruby on Rails, nested syntax highlighting, basic method completion in the same file scope (a la TextMate). Couldnt find any way to toggle between soft and hard tabs, or control their spacing.

Good start, needs FTP capacity.

I like this program, very responsive. I love the color coding of the tags and how fast it updates the preview when changes are made. The one thing I miss is the option of seeing a file system for FTP and local folder to make uploads and downloads of a site when files are ready. As it is now, I have to do FTP with other programs which is a pain because I need to keep track of multiple steps. I guess I did not read enough before buying to figure this on time. If the FTP feature can be added, this is a 5 star application. Now is good for "testing" views. And the price is great.

Just what the (app) doctor ordered!

If youre a developer and you calculate your time at minimum wage, this app will take maybe three days to pay for itself in time saved. So if you do the math based on what your time is actually worth, this app pays for itself many times a day! I should add that support is great--even for dumb questions like the one I asked!

Very nice lightweight HTML/PHP editor

I love my MacBook Air (MBA), but it really doesnt have the horsepower (or hard disk space or RAM) to handle heavy duty apps. On my iMac, I run MAMP Pro and Coda for most of my web development work, but I wanted some way to do quick site changes or touch ups from my MBA. Then I discovered HyperEdit. I bought it yesterday, spent no more than ten or twenty minutes doping it out, and now I can call up any page from my Web site in it on my MBA to make changes. I use Transmit for FTP (as someone else pointed out, it would nice if FTP were included in HyperEdit, but for me its no deal breaker), and Im set. Im not about to do heavy-duty animation or photo re-touching on the MBA, but for blogging, and making modest additions to/corrections of a site, its terrific. I attached my main style sheet to the app, and now I can open any page and BAM! it pops up, looking just as it should, side-by-side with the code. I really love it. Its just what I was looking for. (And so far, no glitchiness, no crashes, no file corruption -- it works as it should and gets the job done.)

Too much going on and too few clues to control

Dont know what happened, I used it yesterday and it worked great. Today the cursor disappears everytime I press a charactor. Makes it hard to edit. I dont even know what to search the documentation for, but as its so sparce thats not a worry.

Great

Although probably not powerful enough for a proffessional web design company, this application is great for me! Although HTML can easily be coded in a simple text editor, HyperEdit gives more of a "compiler" feel to the process, great for programmers like me. This application would be amazing if there was support for auto-completion of code, like codesense in Xcode. Of course that is asking for a lot, but perhaps just completion of tags. Good price, and a great buy for a programmer just starting web design.

Really good app

I needed an app for a college web page design class and this one really helps! if you need something to help you learn web page design its a great app

HORRIBLE!

You mind as well be writing straight html code. Cannot embed sound unless you have embedded it in ether flash or a movie. Get Dreamweaver.

Love this app!

This is a great app. It does exactly what it says it will do. It doesnt say it is an FTP client, it doesnt say it writes HTML for you. It is an editor. This app is really great, it has helped me to learn CSS because I can see immediate feedback of everything I type, which is extremely helpful.

Nice but ..

Good HTML editor. - A killer feature that would make the preview feature a lot more useful: have the html and preview panes scroll synchronously with some sort of highlighting to mark the area of the preview pane corresponding to where the cursor is in the HTML pane. - Also would be nice to show some sort structural map for the HTML side and allow navigation by clicking on a node

My favorite editor

The title says it all.

Very nice

There is a heck of a lot here for only $9.99. Great editor, I especially like the linked files drawer and live preview. I doubt the day will ever come when one can get a drag and drop html generator coupled with an editor such as this, but that would be the Holy Grail of web design.

Pretty good but one little thing

It is compatable with alot of languages wich i like and you can use it to prerun javascript wich not all editors have but its a little laggy when it comes to typing

Perfect for Learning HTML Hand Coding and Developing Responsive Designs

We use HyperEdit to teach hand coding and test responsive designs on the fly. We also use HyperEdit to bring writers up to speed so they can post content without technical assistance. HyperEdit integrates well with Coda through the "Edit with" contextual menu. For developing we embed the CSS into the header then copy the code to the css file once it works for us. HyperEdit is worth every penny of its price. Validation is fine for HTML 4, but stops at the DOCTYPE for HTML5. Since we validate with Coda this is not a problem for us. Five stars for a very cost-effective app!!

Im making fast progress in my learning

Hyperedit is exactly what Ive been needing for learning to code for the web. I love that as I make code changes in the left window, those changes are reflected instantly on the right. I cant think of a better way to quickly learn coding for the web. This app delivers! Also Id like to add that Tumults customer support is top notch, theyve already provent that to me.

No recent development, but work is really needed!

This is a GREAT concept. HyperEdit is a cool app that is a good complement to apps like Espresso and Coda; however, it is really lacking in a few areas. First, there is a large learning curve as compared to simply editing PHP and posting on your server (or running against your local server). If you are looking for instant debugging, you may be a little disappointed. Next, the design of linked files and tracking grouped projects of files is not where it should be. Maybe Im just so used to version control systems that something without basic grouping features seems primative, but thats just how I see it. Finally, the app needs some work and it appears to be off the radar for new features and updates. Pros: still a great concept, if it is updated it could be a perfect tool in your developer bag of tricks. The price is right (now just $9.99, used to be $25 I think), and it does parse PHP in real time.

What a great learning tool!

Getting to see the changes I make in real time really helps with learning what things do and how to apply them. I will be recomending this app to everybody I know who wants to learn HTML/PSP.

Pretty dissapointing

You would expect an html editor to be able to show in the preview the place where your curson is in the html/php….
